We Are Called by Name
The custom of being named is traditionally associated with Baptism, because Baptism
is all about your identity; who you are and what you want to become.
In the Bible, there are many stories when God intervenes in a person’s life, and thatperson is given a new name.
In the Old Testament, Abram became Abraham, and his wife Sarai became Sarah.Jacob received the name Israel.
In the New Testament, Jesus called Simon by a new name – Peter; And after hisconversion, Saul of Tarsus was called Paul.
Baptism is a very significant moment in the life of a Christian. A new life is beginning

The Priest or Deacon makes the sign of the Cross on your forehead, which is a signthat you belong to God.

Now this is what the Lord says.
He created you, people of Jacob.
He formed you, people of Israel.
He says, “Don’t be afraid, because I have saved you.
I have called you by name, and you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.
When you cross rivers, you will not drown.
When you walk through fire, you will not be burned.
The flames will not hurt you.
This is because I, the Lord, am your God.
I, the Holy One of Israel, am your Savior.
I gave Egypt to pay for you.
I gave Cush and Seba to make you mine.
You are precious to me.
I give you honor, and I love you.
So I will give other people in your place.
I will give other nations to save your life.
Remember to start with the
Sign Of The Cross
God, our Father, thank you for calling us to be your children.
We know your love, and we
want to share it with others.
Send your Holy Spirit to help us love and care for everything
you have created.
We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
