Session 7 - Prayer

We Pray To God Our Father

There is a story in the Bible that tells how a young boy named Samuel listened when God called his name.

What is the child doing?

What might God say to him?

When we pray, we should listen to God as Samuel did.

God puts thoughts in our mind and heart. We hear God deep within us.

When we speak to God, we are also praying. God likes it when we pray.

God is our friend.

He wants us to talk to him.

We can visit with God in silence.

We can visit with God using words.

A visit with God is like a visit with a friend.

You can use your hand to help you create a meaningful prayer.

It was developed by Pope Francis, long before he became Pope.

4

We need to listen with our ears and speak with our mouths about God and His love

Dear God,

Thank you for the story of Samuel.  I pray that I will always listen for your voice.

I ask this in Jesus' name,

Amen

CATHOLIC TRADITIONS

The Rosary is a Catholic form of prayer using beads.

It is a cycle of repeated formal prayers, such as

the Lord's Prayer

and the Hail Mary,

It helps us remember important events in the lives of Jesus and Mary

The Rosary

We can already say many of the prayers in the Rosary.

Let's Memorize Our Prayers

Grace Before Meals

Bless us O Lord, and these thy gifts,
Which we are about to receive,

from thy bounty,
Through Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy Will be done,

on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Bedtime Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Angels watch me through the night,
And wake me with the morning light.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.
